The John Gray Centre Film Appreciation Club is running a Women’s Film Season in March 2017 to coincide with International Women’s Day, to enhance the Club’s profile, and to contribute to the Centre’s audience development and effort to reach the wider community. The Women’s Film Season also aims to support and promote the Archive Service Scottish Women’s Rural Institute 100th Anniversary exhibition (21st January to 4th May) in the temporary gallery of the Museum.
As the film season title suggests, the programme involves screening female-centric films at the Centre on March 4th at 1pm; 9th at 7pm; 11th at 11.30am; 18th at 11.30am; 25th at 12.30pm. Due to copyright and licensing restrictions, we are not allowed to announce the film titles on our webpage and social media. Nevertheless, promotional posters can be seen around Haddington and at branch libraries across East Lothian.
A launch event has been organised for March 4th at 10am and it is called ‘The Woman’s Platform’. The event is a friendly and informal forum for individuals and women’s groups from various fields to share experiences, anecdotes, challenges, and achievements with each other, and with members of the public. A panel of eight female speakers will speak briefly about their activities and experiences. You will have the opportunity to meet like-minded individuals and chat about issues and activities involving women in the local community. You will also have the opportunity to view the exhibition and the event will end with the first film screening for the season. The launch event and exhibition is free-of-charge but information on the film screening ticket details are below.
A closing event has also been organised for March 25th at 10am and it is called ‘The Woman’s Value’. This is a Coffee Morning fund -raising event for Breast Cancer Now. There will be a series of short talks on issues and activities relating to women. The event will close with the final film screening for the season. Places for the Coffee Morning specifically are limited and therefore advanced booking is required. Entry is £5 and proceeds will go to the chosen charity. The film screening, however, is open to all. See below for ticket details.
Information for all events and screenings can be found on our Facebook page and at the various links on this page.
